Montana Lawmakers Look to Pass Stricter Adult Ordinances

Great Falls, Mont. – The Montana House Judiciary Committee is considering enacting tighter adult ordinances. The Great Falls Tribune reported that the committee has been working on passing tougher legislation that would grant more power to the state’s counties, cities and towns.
"Montana is arguably the most permissive state in the nation when it comes to obscenity and harmful-to-minors material," Dallas Erickson, founder of Montana for Decency through Law, told The Tribune. "The Legislature failed to protect our children. As a result we have to work on a local basis."

"This is a very good measure that will allow each community to establish and enforce its own obscenity standards," added Daniel Weiss, a senior media analyst for the conservative group Focus on the Family. "With very little law enforcement occurring at the federal level, it is more incumbent upon local officials to protect the children under their care."
