“As the trade association for the industry, it is the Free Speech Coalition’s responsibility to provide leadership through the development of consistent ethical standards by defining best practices, many of which are already in use by adult businesses. We look forward to continued input from the industry as we work together to develop a Code of Ethics and Best Practices we can all be proud of.”

The Free Speech Coalition (FSC), the trade association of the Adult Entertainment Industry, has identified in the following Code of Ethics the core values that inspire the adult entertainment industry:

The Code of Ethics and Best Practices may establish responsibilities higher than those mandated by law. However, in any instance where the Code of Ethics and Best Practices are in conflict with the law, the obligation of the law must come first.

DRAFT
Best Practices

07/07/06

With the support and approval of many industry leaders, Free Speech Coalition (FSC) has developed the following draft of Best Practices. Upon approval of the Board of Directors and the Membership (see above timeline), FSC will endorse these Best Practices for use in your businesses.

This first draft of Best Practices is built on the foundation of the Code of Ethics. It is an initial list of the most effective policies and procedures used by contemporary businesses, and the recommended best practices of other industry organizations that address the most challenging issues facing the industry today. We hope that every one of you will offer suggestions and contribute sections that will help us create a comprehensive and resourceful set of guidelines for the entire industry.

FSC will continue to gather and document Best Practices for use by the adult entertainment industry on a regular basis, with an open door to regular participation from the membership. We intend to update the Best Practices annually to better guide adult entertainment industry business people as the business environment changes.

Responsibly-run businesses comply with the law.
Businesses that actively pursue good neighbor policies and contribute to their local community are more successful and more likely to weather opposition.
Conduct business with integrity and professionalism.

FSC encourages adult businesses that develop content to adopt the Best Practices in Adult Video (BPAV; www.bpav.org)
Continuously educate and inform yourself and your consumers about healthy adult sexuality.
Take appropriate steps to help parents control minor access to adult content and empower parents and guardians of minors, and other users to prevent such access, without censorship of, or limiting access to, adult entertainment for consenting adults. (Parent Empowerment)
Take appropriate steps to prevent non-consenting adults from accidentally accessing adult entertainment, with out censorship of, or limiting access to, adult entertainment for consenting adults. (Non-Consumer Courtesy)
